Jos Electricity Distribution Plc has said it plans to deliver additional 200,000 meters for its customers under phase one of the National Mass Metering Programme (NMMP).

 The company said it had provided meters for over 88,500 customers in their franchise states of Bauchi, Benue, Gombe and Plateau under phase zero, adding that the above figure was apart from the over 20,000 meters it installed through its internal arrangements.

The Managing Director of the company, Engr Hashim Ibrahim Bakori, disclosed this at a stakeholders’ meeting organised by the Association of Electricity Distributors (ANED) and sponsored by the MacArthur Foundation in Jos at the weekend.

Bakori, who was represented by the Chief Commercial Officer, Engr Mansir Nakande, said the NMMP was initiated to bridge the metering gaps of customers in order to eliminate estimated billings.

“It is our desire to meter all our customers and hopefully we will Meter all our customers. We are already working towards that.”

The Jos DisCo head called on customers to help the company in the fight against vandalism and energy theft by taking ownership of electricity installations in their domains.

The Executive Director, Research and Advocacy of the Association of Electricity Distributors (ANED), Chief Sunday Oduntan, called on customers to exercise patience with the company, agreeing that the over 88,000 meters allocated to the company would not be enough for all the customers.
