Jos filmmaker stabbed to death

A filmmaker in Jos, Plateau State, Jibril Mailafiya was on Tuesday found dead with a stab wound around Millionaires Quarters in the state capital.

Mailafiya, who was buried on Tuesday according to Islamic rites, was said to have been killed elsewhere and later dumped around Unique, a school at Millionaires quarters.

His death triggered a protest on Tuesday by students of the National Film Institute where he graduated from in 2013.

Spokesperson of the police in the state, DSP Tyopev Terna, yesterday, said an unknown corpse was discovered around Millionaires Quarters on Tuesday and the matter had been reported to the police by the community.

“We moved in and evacuated the corpse, later on the family showed up to identify the victim. They denied autopsy and took the corpse for burial according to Islamic rites while investigation into what led to his death is ongoing,” Terna said.

A renowned actor and media practitioner, Sani Muazu, told journalist that the death of the young filmmaker “once again brings to fore the menace of sara-suka and other forms of security threats that are silently continuing in Jos. More needs to be done by security agencies to stop this madness,” he added.
