Journalists donate to primary school pupils in Bauchi

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Bauchi State Chapter has donated learning materials worth thousands of naira to primary school girls in the state.

Some of the items donated to 50 girls at Dungal primary school in the state metropolis include exercise books, schools bags and sandals.

Secretary of the association, Hajiya Aisha Bamai said the donation was to commemorate the International Day of the Girl Child and to encourage girl child enrolment at the basic level.

Bamai noted that part of the association’s objectives is to champion the development of the socio-economic status of women and children in the state.

On his part, the Village Head of Dungal, Malam Abdullahi Adamu called on government to renovate five dilapidated classrooms in the school and provide furniture and other learning materials.

He also called for the construction of toilet facilities for the students and teachers for proper sanitation.

Adamu commended NAWOJ for the gesture and their effort to encourage girl child education in the community.

Speaking after receiving the materials, the Headmistress of the school, Mrs Grace Goje promised to ensure that the beneficiaries put them to good use.
