School Feeding: Committee advises banks to ease funds access

Banks in Bauchi State involved in the disbursement of funds to cooks participating in the federal government’s school feeding programme have been urged to‎ ease access to the funds.

A statement by the Special Assistant to Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar on Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) , Mansur Manu Soro  stated that the State School Feeding Multi-Sectoral Team (SSFMT) set up by the governor  to monitor and ensure‎ proper implementation of the programme made the call after a meeting with officials of the banks involved in the exercise.

According to the statement, the team met with the banks to deliberate on possible ways to reduce congestion and hardship being experienced by the cooks during withdrawals at the banks.

The banks which include FCMB, UBA and Union Bank in charge of Bauchi North, Central and Bauchi South respectively were urged to adopt using agency banking to enable cash out to cooks at various LGA headquarters where there are no banks. 

A breakdown of the school feeding programme based on the three senatorial zones revealed that ‎236,846 pupils are targeted for feeding in Bauchi South, 148,981 Bauchi central and 112,572 pupils in Bauchi north.
