This information was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the World Press Freedom Day, organised by the national secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in collaboration with UNESCO and Nigerian Press Council in Kaduna.
The communiqué signed by the national secretary of NUJ, Shuaibu Usman Leman, stressed the importance of the unit in shaping the decision of students.
The communiqué urged owners of media houses to provide more opportunities for women journalists to enable them reach the peak of their career in the profession.
It also tasked media organisations to remain fair and balance to all segments of the society in their reportage.
The communiqué highlighted the need for good governance and fight against corruption, adding: “Journalists must be alive to their responsibilities at all times by ensuring that they are responsive and responsible in carrying out their duties in line with the ethics of the profession.”
The communiqué stressed the need for the enactment of a law to enforce the June 2015 deadline for digitisation of media organisations.
