Joy Sport Football Club defeated Ga’a Akanbi Football Club 3-1 to win the 18th edition of Wesley 7-A-Side football competition in Kwara State.
The final match of the tournament which featured 48 grassroots clubs was decided at Wesley LGEA School.
Ga’a Akanbi FC drew the first blood in the early part of first half, but failed to increase their tally despite concerted efforts.
They, however, conceded three goals in the second half of the highly explosive and action packed encounter following a stunning comeback by Joy Sport FC in the match witnessed by a capacity crowd.
Arowoiyabuna Football Club defeated Peace FC 3-0 to win the third place match.
Shola Sulaiman of Joy Sport FC, known as “De Lima” scored eight goals to emerge the Highest Goal Scorer, while Waris Rauf of Ga’a Akanbi FC was picked as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the competition.
The competition was staged in honour of Alhaji AbdulRazaq Elemosho Baba Alakuko, the Kìnnìún Adini, who sponsored this year’s edition.
Engineer Bolakale Kawu, a philanthropist, was the special guest of honour at the event.
In a message by Moshood Best, Chairman of the Organising Committee, which was read by Master Yusuf Alanamu, the committee praised Kawu popularly known as Dan Iya Ngeri’s contributions towards humanity and sports development.
