Speaking at the event, Principal of the school Mallam Abubakar Saidu Garba  said that Nigerians will be doing themselves and the nation great injustice if they do not promote their culture among youths.

“Celebrating this day is the result of cultural influence on man`s physical and physiological nature and his capacity to adapt easily to different environments. The need to celebrate our cultural heritage therefore becomes important. The same cannot, however, be said about the younger generation in the cities today. They are neither Africans nor Europeans as they shy away from cultural basics such as language and the way it is spoken, types of food, how they are grown or cooked, types of houses built and how they are built. The attines man wears; apart from other factors,” he said.

The Principal said that the cultural day celebration is already an annual event apart from other cultural programmes that the school is participating in like the International Youths Festival coming up in Ukraine.

Also speaking a representative of the National Institute for  Cultural Orientation (NICO) Mr.  Bamidele Olubasi   commended the school for its cultural activities which will help mould the youths in Nigeria’s rich cultural   heritage.

He said that NICO is working on how to sponsor the students of the school to Ukraine for the International Youth Festival in July.

In her speech, President of the school`s cultural club, Miss Akabu Patience, A JSS 3 student, lamented that the Nigerian children have lost touch with their rich indigenous culture.

“It is the reality that hit us so hard and propels us to be the change that we desire by linking us up with our role to promote our rich cultural heritage and not foreign ones,” she said.

She sought the support of all stakeholders to help revive the lost cultural values in younger generations of Nigeria.

Highlights of the event include cultural presentations, drama, dance and exhibition of cultural products and crafts by the students.
