Shuaibu Muhammed Bama was reportedly arrested after many months of trailing, spokesman of the JTF, Lieutenant Colonel Sagir Musa said in a press release emailed to newsmen yesterday.

 

The JTF, however, did not give the name of the senator.

Weekly Trust reports that the announcement of the arrest came few hours after gunmen, suspected to be members of the Boko Haram, killed a Chinese worker at a construction site in Maiduguri.

The JTF statement reads: “it would be recalled that Boko Haram terrorists launched multiple attacks at different locations of the JTF in Simari and Lagos Street along Gwange area at different times of the night on Monday, 15th October, 2012.  All the attacks were repelled.

“Consequently, a follow up operation was conducted today (yesterday) which resulted in the recovery of  two Ak47 rifles,  55 rounds of 7. 62 special ammunitions, large quantity of Improvised Explosive Device  (IED) materials and a notorious Boko Haram commander, one Bakura Kulima aka Bin Walid who was killed during an exchange of fire with troops.

“Consequently, at about 11 am on Thursday, 18th October, 2012, a high profile Boko Haram commander, one Shuaibu Muhammed Bama, who has been on the list of wanted terrorists operating between Bama and Maiduguri was arrested by the task force troops in a serving Senator’s house along Damboa Road, GRA Maiduguri. He is in the custody of the JTF and assisting in the investigation and has since made startling revelations,” the statement said.

The JTF has not yet confirmed the killing of the Chinese man, but a security source said the Chinese   was killed in the afternoon at a bridge construction site behind Gidan Madara, on Lagos Street.

It was gathered that the deceased was working with Grandscope Construction Company.

“When the gunmen went to the construction site, they targeted the Chinese man and shot him…he was the only one killed though some engineers and workers were at the site. They all fled through different directions when they saw what happened,” a witness said.

Recently, Mr. Chen Jingle, another Chinese,   was killed on Sunday  October 7, 2012 at a village market in Gubio where he reportedly went to buy rams.

Before his death, Jingle was an employee of CGC, a construction firm that is handling the Damasak-Dikwa road project in northern part of Borno State.
