Eteng who is the legal adviser to the Labour Party in the state, addressed journalists on a wide range of electoral issues.
He expressed concern that the authorities in the state judiciary have been unable to address the grievances and demands of the judiciary workers whereas their counterparts in other states in the country have since returned to work.
“I have strong fears that if the ongoing strike by judiciary workers in Cross River State is not called off now and the offices of the state judiciary opened, the envisaged election appeal panels that shall soon be inaugurated may have to sit outside the court premises.
“The strike will seriously hamper the works of the election petition panels. The aggrieved politicians and the various issues that may be contained in their petitions may not be comfortably addressed by such panels,” he said.
Eteng called on the authorities to address the issues raised by the workers so that they can resume work soon in view of the height of disapproval of election results released by the INEC.
Chairman of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) in the state in a telephone interview said the authorities in Cross River State have refused to look into their various demands and this has unduly elongated the strike in the state.
He said it would be difficult for them to call off the strike because of election tribunals.
