The National Assembly will hold a Special Joint Sitting on Thursday, June 12 in honour of Democracy Day, with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu expected to attend as Special Guest of Honour.
In a statement released on Sunday by the House of Representatives Spokesman, Rep. Akin Rotimi, the event will mark 26 years of uninterrupted democracy in Nigeria under the theme: “26 Years of Democracy: Renewing Our Commitment to National Development.”
According to him, an internal memorandum from the Clerk of the House, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, said the session will take place in the House of Representatives Chamber at the National Assembly Complex.
“Proceedings will begin at 11:00 a.m., ahead of the President’s arrival at 12:00 noon.

“Highlights of the event include a Presidential Address, goodwill messages from former presiding officers of the National Assembly, and the conferment of National Honours on selected legislators by President Tinubu”, the statement said.
The joint sitting, the statement noted, is a reflection of the National Assembly’s vital role in promoting democratic values, accountability, and national development.
The House urged Nigerians to use the occasion to reflect on the democratic journey, and to recommit to unity, patriotism, and inclusive nation-building.
