‘Oh she just stepped out to get something at the supermarket. She said I should tell you she’ll soon be back.’ Halima answered.
‘Ok, I will wait for her.’ I replied, finally looking towards the direction of the TV, where Halima’s mind seemed to be diverted. It was a foreign programme in one of the cable stations. Three participants seemed to be avidly engaged in assessing the fashion sense of a particular individual. The only man on the show seemed irritatingly effeminate.
‘What is wrong with this man that he is acting even more feminine than the women in the programme?’ I observed.
‘Oh, that’s because he’s gay Aunty.’ Halima answered me, smiling.
‘He is what? And you can afford to sit there watching such a horribly immoral fool as if there is nothing wrong with him. I feel nauseated already looking at him acting like a female, how can you stand this Halima?’I demanded.
‘Come on Aunty don’t sound like a homophobe. Gays are cool. I mean when you get used to them you’ll find out that they are really harmless and fun to be with.’ she explained, still smiling.
‘Cool, harmless, fun to be with? Have you lost your mind? When did you ever know any gays that you feel knowledgeable enough to describe them?’ I cried.
‘On campus Aunty. And also in the larger society. You know it’s ok for them to ‘come out’ in the United States. Their marriages are even legal in some states of the Union. That’s how I got to know them. I was like you when I first arrived there two years ago, I couldn’t stand them because they seemed so odd but I soon got used to them and now I just see them as normal.’ She concluded.
‘Incredible, this is thoroughly incredible. I can’t wait for your Mum to come and see what sending you to America has done for your moral values. How can you sit there and be telling me you see the most morally depraved, unnatural, satanic sinners in the world as normal? So what if they are allowed to come out and marry in the US? Does that make their lifestyle any less sinful?
They have gone against all natural laws of decency and pro-creation. Even animals do not do what homosexuals do, they are too decent and aware of the natural order of things to risk offending their Creator. And you call gays normal?’ I asked in disgust.
‘But Aunty it’s their sexual orientation, they can’t help the way they are made. We just have to accept them that way.’ Halima pleaded.
‘No Halima they were not made that way. Some people always have a tendency towards depravity.  The first people to try this grievous sin were the people of Prophet Lut (AS). They did it for no other reason than their depravity and wickedness. They were sinners who openly engaged in this perversion and persecuted their Prophet (AS) for preaching against it.
When Almighty Allah decided to punish them, He SWT sent against them stones of baked clay which were rained upon them. Then their town was turned upside down so their dwellings were buried along with them. Such was the extent of Allah’s wrath against them. Today that scene of crime and punishment is covered under a body of water known as the Dead Sea. It is the lowest point on earth and the sea is the saltiest in the world. No living thing, neither plants nor animals can live or survive in that water. Just imagine a sea without fishes or plants; that is the Dead Sea for you. And some ulama believe that is a result of the extent of punishment being meted out to those perverts beneath it. So how can you tell me gays are made that way when their Creator has cursed them and punished their pioneers?’ I asked, rhetorically.
‘Wow Aunty, I had no idea the phenomenon has such an ancient history behind it.’ Halima observed, amazed.   
‘Yes it does and over the centuries people with such tendencies have always been shunned by society and considered sick. In fact as late as the 1960s homosexuality was a disease in psychiatry books. It was treated through counseling therapy. But the modern, satanic masters of the world today decided to make it acceptable to the world, so they removed homosexuality as a disease from the books and replaced it with homophobia. So today it is not the immoral pervert who sleeps with fellow men that is sick, it is the one who can’t stand his lifestyle that is sick. I remember that you too asked me not to be a homophobe right now. Well know where you are coming from, young lady. You are a victim of an orchestrated campaign against morality and the continuity of mankind.’ I warned.
‘I’m sorry Aunty, I didn’t mean to sound offensive. I just said it because back in the US that’s what they always say to people who can’t stand gays “Oh don’t be a homophobe.” So I just thought that is the thing to say. I had no idea it is a sin, I mean I know it’s unnatural and it used to make me uncomfortable to see gay couples but now that I’m used to seeing them the revulsion just faded away.’ She explained.
‘Well you better bring the revulsion back because this sin is so grievous that not even Satan can stand to watch it. According to Islamic scholars, whatever sin a human being is committing Satan stands there with him to egg him on. He keeps instigating you and remains with you till you have done it, whether it is murder or robbery or rape, he remains with you to the very end. But whenever Satan instigates gays into committing homosexuality, he himself leaves the scene out of fear of the wrath of God. The ulama also say that the earth trembles whenever a homosexual act is being committed because of the gravity of it.’ I declared.
‘Now you are getting me really scared Aunty. I mean these are people I see almost every-day in the US and here you are telling me that their lifestyle is such a huge disaster?’ She asked.
‘Yes it is, first of all it is against all natural laws. Then it is a most promiscuous lifestyle because gays tend to sleep with just anyone since they won’t have to worry about the consequences. No children born out of wedlock, no liability for anything, just their pursuit of hedonism. I once watched an American talk-show in which a reformed homosexual was talking about his past life. At that point he was married with two children. But he said that in the few years he had been gay, he had affairs with no less than 400 men. Can you believe such a degree of promiscuity? Then there is the eternal anger of Almighty Allah, the burning in hell forever. So what gain could there ever be in such a filthy, unrewarding lifestyle?’ I argued with passion.
‘Yes Aunty, it is indeed a filthy lifestyle. After all you had to say, I wish all those who are into it will know. I feel helpless knowing that all my gay friends have such a loss awaiting them.’ Halima declared, sadly.
‘You mean you have many gay friends, how did that happen?’ I asked, perplexed.
‘Well there is this general belief that they are sensitive and understanding and make great friends because they are in touch with both their female and male instincts. And we generally consider them safe because they will never take advantage of us since they are not interested in women. So because of these reasons, I allowed myself to get friendly with some of them.’ Halima admitted.
‘Well stop those friendships now Halima. Keep away from these perverts and know that there is nothing they can offer you that normal, decent friends cannot. All the talk about gays being sensitive and in touch with both genders is a lie and deception. They are nothing but shameless sinners. And outside the United States there are laws against them too, both secular and religious.
In Islam, confirmed homosexuals, caught in the act are to be stoned to death. But most countries opt for prison sentences today because they no longer practice Sharia law. And even in secular laws there is legal punishment for sodomy. So take it from me, gays are bad news, not to be befriended and certainly not be pitied or liked. They are Almighty Allah’s accursed and disobedient slaves. Meanwhile, I will tell your Mum to keep drumming this into your head as long as you remain in US studying. We can’t have you tolerating such evil, no we can’t.’ I repeated, shaking my index finger at her.
