A former commissioner in Ogun State, Abayomi Semako Hunye, on Tuesday obtained the governorship nomination form of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the next election in the state.

Hunye’s decision contrasts sharply with the recent adoption of Senator representing Ogun West, Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as the APC’s consensus governorship candidate.

Daily Trust reports that on April 13, leaders of APC in the state, including Governor Dapo Abiodun, unanimously adopted Adeola as the party’s consensus candidate ahead of the next election.

The decision was reached at the APC strategic caucus meeting held at the party secretariat in Abeokuta.

The meeting was attended by all three former governors: Olusegun Osoba, Ibikunle Amosun, and Gbenga Daniel.

Also in attendance were APC gubernatorial aspirants, including Iyabo Obasanjo, Gboyega Isiaka, Tunde Lemo, and Isiak Akinlade.

Hunye, a politician of Yewa extraction like Adeola, did not attend the caucus meeting.

The immediate past Managing Director of the Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA) sent shockwaves across the Ogun APC when he reportedly obtained the party’s nomination form on Tuesday.

The ₦50 million form was obtained on his behalf by a third party in Abuja.

On the same day, the adopted candidate also obtained the nomination form through his media aide, Kayode Odunaro.

Hunye’s entry appears set to stage a governorship primary between the two aspirants.

The former commissioner confirmed the purchase of the nomination form in a brief telephone interview with Daily Trust.

“That’s a fact,” he told the correspondent.

When asked whether his decision opposed the party’s adoption of a consensus candidate, Hunye responded, “Don’t ask me such a question, please.”
