Just in: Maimuna Emerges FUGA First Female Vice chancellor

The outgoing Vice Chancellor Prof Andrew Haruna handing over appointment letter to the incoming VC Prof Maimuna Waziri.

The governing council of the Federal University Gashua has approved the appointment of Prof. Maimuna Waziri as the third substantive Vice Chancellor of the University. 

The announcement was made Saturday evening in a statement signed by the univarsity’s Head of Information and Protocol Unit, Usar Ignatius.

Maimuna who is a Professor of Chemistry would succeed Prof Andrew Haruna whose tenure would end early February this year.

She emerged the winner after defeating 47 other professors in a close contest held Saturday January 16, 2021.

Announcing the council’s decision after its 5th meeting held on Saturday, January 16, 2021, the Pro-Chancellor and the Chairman of the Governing council, Ibrahim Akuyam, said forty-eight (48) professors applied for the position out of which twenty-five (25) were shortlisted for interaction and three best candidates emerged from which the Council chose Professor Maimuna Waziri as the new Vice Chancellor.

While congratulating the new vice chancellor,  the chairman called on her to carry all the staff along.
