Dr. Umar Aliyu, Chief Imam of the Uthman Bin Affan Juma’at Mosque, Abuja, has identified justice, accountable leadership and peaceful coexistence as essential pillars for achieving lasting security and stability in Nigeria.
Speaking at a Ramadan lecture in Abuja, Dr. Aliyu stressed that no society can enjoy genuine peace where justice is undermined or leadership is treated as an avenue for personal enrichment rather than a sacred trust.
He said security extends beyond the deployment of armed forces and law enforcement agencies.
He described leadership as a responsibility before God and humanity, warning that insecurity becomes inevitable when leaders abandon justice, accountability and ethical standards.
He lamented a growing trend where public offices are seen as privileges instead of platforms for selfless service.
The cleric urged governments at all levels to prioritise education as a long-term investment in national stability, noting that enlightened and economically empowered citizens are less vulnerable to manipulation, extremism and violence.
Emphasising the role of citizens, he called for unity, cooperation and good neighbourliness, drawing on Islamic teachings that promote communal responsibility.
Also speaking, Uztadh Tajuddeen Adigun of the Muslim Community Centre (MCC) Jumu’ah Mosque, Wuse Zone 3, Abuja, encouraged Muslims to remain conscious of accountability in the hereafter and to use Ramadan for reflection and spiritual renewal.
Similarly, Uztaz Shuaibu Abdusalam of the Majlis Tajdeed Tadhamunul Muslimeen Association FCT urged Nigerians to embrace peace, unity and sincere devotion.
