The Chief Accountant of the Federal High Court, Abuja, Mr. Awoyemi Adisa has told an FCT High Court that the annual basic salary of Justice Adeniyi Ademola is about N6.3 million.
Led in evidence Thursday by the prosecution counsel, Barrister Segun Jegede, Adisa who was testifying as the thirteenth witness told the court the judge earns a basic monthly salary of N528,638.76k.
He said the judge also earns other allowances which include furniture allowance paid once in four years to the tune N5.4 million and a monthly welfare allowance of N305,000.
He said Justice Ademola was paid $6,300 as estacode last year for medical checkup abroad.
However, under cross-examination by Dr. Onyechi Ikpeazu (SAN), the witness confirmed that there are programmes, seminars and workshops attended by judges outside the country that are organised by the British government.
He said because these programmes are not paid for by the Court, he does not know how much estacodes the British government paid to the judges. He added that estacodes are especially paid in US Dollars; but it is allowed for the money to be converted to the currency of the country being visited.
"There are some external courses attended by judges of the Federal High Court that are not funded by the court”, he said.
The CTC of salary and emolument of the Justice Ademola from January 2009 to October 2016 had earlier been tendered as exhibits by the Deputy Chief Registrar of the Federal High Court, Mrs. Christine Ende.
At the resumed hearing today, Justice Jude Okeke adjourned the trial to February 20 at the instance of the counsel of Mrs. Ademola, Chief Robert Clark on health ground.
He said because of age factor, sitting for long period during the trial has brought him much pains. "I spoke with my Doctor this morning and he told me it is not a life threatening ailment, so I am sure I will be available on the next adjourned date", he said.
Prosecution counsel, Barrister Jegede confirmed that Chief Clarke approached him earlier. He said the pace of the trial has been taken its toll on everyone.
"Even my co-counsel, Mr. Emmanuel Ugbe is at the hospital at the moment. Even me, I can hardly speak. My Lord, I have no objection to the application for adjournment", he said.
