Law officers nationwide under the umbrella of law officers association of Nigeria (LOAN) have called on the Federal Government to provide adequate safety and protection for its members, judges and magistrates nationwide.

LOAN expressed shock at the kidnap of Justice Chioma Iheme-Nwosu, a Justice of the Court of Appeal and Justice Abdul Dogo, both of whom have been released.

They said this in a communique issued at the end of their 4th Annual National Conference and Continuing Legal Education, which took place recently in Abuja, with the theme: ‘Law officer: A veritable tool for socio-economic development for Nigeria.’

The communique which was jointly signed by Comrade Yusuf Abdulahi Abdulkadir and Comrade Joseph Jebba, LOAN National President and Secretary respectively, observed that crime cannot be successfully fought without the provision of adequate safety and protection for judges, magistrates and LOAN members.

The conference noted with concern the state of insecurity nationwide and condemned the wanton destruction of lives and properties orchestrated by terrorists, bandits, kidnappers, armed robbers and the likes and urged the FG and security agencies to put in place measures to stamp out the anomalies.

The association condoled with the family of Justice Chioma Iheme-Nwosu’s police orderly, who was gruesomely murdered.

The lawyers therefore urged Nigerians to be security conscious and proactive through report of security threats and breaches to appropriate security agencies.
