JUTH host community protests management ‘failure’ to honour agreement

Residents of Lamingo area of Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State staged a protest against the management of Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) for its failure to implement an agreement it entered with the community.

The protesters, who carried placards with different inscriptions marched along the major streets of Lamingo.

They said after providing more 2000 hectares of land for the building of the permanent site of the hospital, the managemet failed to honour its side of the agreement.

The leader of the protesters, Azi Aware, said the agreement they had with JUTH included the  provision of employment for their youths as well as other developmental projects in their area.

He said having agreed to accommodate the teaching hospital, the management should endeavour to come to the aid of the community inhabited mostly by peasants.

The protesters later marched to the palace of their paramount ruler to present their case.

The paramount ruler, Adagwom Jos Izere Chiefdom, Ada Emmanuel Ajik (JP), said  dialogue should be the best solution to any agitations, and urged the protesters to remain calm as amicable solution would be sought.

The Chief Medical Director of JUTH, Prof. Edmund Banward, said the agitations by the youths were proper and attributed the problem to lack of communication between the management and the community.

He said a liaising committee should be constituted between JUTH and the host community in order to cement their relationship
