The Ikkukumung Development Association (IDA) and Jolex Construction Company Nig. Ltd have asked Governor Simon Bako Lalong of Plateau State to pay N218 million compensation for the 35 houses affected by the construction of Kabong-Ikkukumung-Tudun-Wada Road in Jos North Local Government Area.

Daily Trust gathered that the work of the road which covers 6.9 kms and was awarded to Jolex Construction Company last year has been moving slowly owing to non-payment of compensation to affected people.

The Chairman of the association, Mr. Fidelis Ngwan, said, “The contractor has tried his best. What we want is for government to release more funds to him, so that he can settle the compensation and continue his good work.”

The Project Engineer of the Jolex Construction Company, Mark Ajobe, said, “In the assessment we have done with the Plateau State Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, we marked 35 houses to be demolished and estate valuers estimated N300 million as compensation, which was later cut down to N218 million. The funds haven’t been released by government, which makes our work move at a snail’s pace.”
