The management of Kaduna Polytechnic said it had launched investigation into an incident in which some students of its College of Business and Management Studies (CBMS) were prevented from attending lectures over alleged dress code violations.

The institution said it had taken note of a viral video circulating on the social media showing members of its Dress Code Committee stopping students from entering lecture halls.

This was contained in a statement signed by Godwin B. Ayegba, Deputy Registrar, Information and Protocol on behalf of the management.

The statement noted that the said clothing worn by the affected students in the video “appears moderate and appropriate,” adding that they should not have been denied access to their lectures.

The polytechnic noted that it maintained a dress code policy to promote decency and professionalism on campus, but stressed that enforcement must follow established guidelines.

It added that the committee responsible for enforcing the policy must ensure its actions are not excessive.

According to the management, an investigation has already been initiated to determine what transpired and whether there were lapses in the enforcement of the policy.

The institution assured students that appropriate steps would be taken to address the situation and prevent a recurrence.
