The Managing Director of the Kaduna State Roads Agency (KADRA), Dr. Abdullahi Baba Ahmad, has hailed the nomination of Kaduna State Governor, Sen. Uba Sani, as Infrastructure Champion of the Year 2025 by the Independent Newspaper.
The nomination, widely regarded as a prestigious recognition, celebrates Governor Sani’s commitment to transformative infrastructure development, particularly in the area of large-scale road construction across the state.
Analysts note that the award underscores the governor’s impactful approach to infrastructure governance—one that prioritizes strategic, inclusive, and people-centered projects designed to reach every part of Kaduna State.
Within less than three years in office, the Sani administration has initiated about 150 road projects covering approximately 1,345 kilometers, ensuring that all 23 local government areas benefit. This marks a significant shift from the past, when as many as 12 LGAs had no completed road projects.
The projects, which span the three senatorial zones, include both completed and ongoing works, ensuring sustainable development. Several long-abandoned projects—some stalled for over a decade—have also been revived and completed, delivering tangible benefits to both rural and urban communities.
In rural areas, key projects such as the Turawa–Dinya Road in Soba LGA have improved access for farmers, while the Pambeguwa–Kauru Road, complete with a three-span bridge, has strengthened economic ties between Kubau and Kauru LGAs.
Urban centres have also witnessed significant upgrades. Roads like the Magajiya–Kasuwan Amaru corridor and the Audi–Kano Road in Zaria have eased traffic congestion, while internal road networks at Ahmadu Bello University and access roads to the Federal University of Applied Sciences Kachia have enhanced access to education.
Commercial activities have been boosted through improved connectivity in areas such as Sabon Gari, where the Basawa–Hunkuyi Road and other township roads have been completed. Similar progress has been recorded in smaller LGAs like Makarfi and Kubau, with several road projects nearing or reaching completion.
Flagship projects further demonstrate the administration’s ambition. Notable among them is the Gadan Gayan–Gwaraji–Kujama Road—the longest constructed in Kaduna State in over two decades—as well as the Bagoma–Gagumi Road in Birnin Gwari. Ongoing urban expansion projects, including the Millennium City Ring Road and major dualization works, are also reshaping the state’s infrastructure landscape.
In Southern Kaduna, critical projects such as the Madauchi–Madakiya–Kafanchan Road and feeder routes linking communities to markets and healthcare facilities are enhancing economic integration and service delivery.
Commending the governor’s vision, Dr. Abdullahi Baba Ahmad described the infrastructure drive as “continuous, inclusive, and purposeful,” noting that projects are deliberately targeted at boosting access to markets, hospitals, educational institutions, and industrial hubs. He added that the state’s interventions in federal institutions further strengthen socio-economic development.
Governor Sani is nominated alongside four other governors, with the winner to be announced at a grand ceremony scheduled for April 18, 2026, at the Eko Hotel & Suites.
The event, marking the silver jubilee of the awards, will be chaired by Oba Ghandi Olaoye, while Oba Rashidi Ladoja will serve as the Royal Father of the Day.
