The Championship which attracted hundreds of badminton veterans across the country was organised by the Exclusive Badminton Club of Kaduna and Nigeria Defence Academy Badminton Club and was staged at the Murtala Mohammed Square in Kaduna.

Speaking to Trustsports after the championship which saw over thirty veterans from Abuja taking part, the captain Obienu lauded the organisers for staging a hitch free championship.

He said the event provided the much needed opportunity for old friends to meet, play and rekindle their friendships.

According to him, most of the veterans who took part in the championship will not hesitate to render full support to the sport which they played with great passion in their youth.

Obienu maintained that if such championships for the veterans are organised in other sports, it will go a long way in encouraging the growth of sports in the country.

He expressed satisfaction with the performance of his team mates and urged them to continue to rest on their oars as he assured that in future competitions for the veterans, the contest for laurels will be more serious than what was witnessed in Kaduna.

In a bid to put themselves in shape for the veterans’ championship, the Abuja Veterans Club travelled to Keffi in Nasarawa State where they engaged their counterparts in warm-up matches.

According to the co-ordinator of the Abuja veterans club, Coach Jones Adokole, the badminton veterans from the FCT won six doubles and two singles out of the three that were played as they completely overwhelmed their opponents.
