KASUPDA in company of men of the Civil Defense moved from street to street dislodging traders found doing business on the road as well as demolishing illegal structures found on the roads.
The demolition exercise affected street hawkers and petty traders who build temporary stalls to sell their goods on the roads.
Daily Trust observed sadness on the faces of traders that were asked to leave the road as majority of them do not have any alternative to trading on the road.
One of the affected traders along Sultan road, Aminu Lawal who sells flasks, coolers and rechargeable lantern among others expressed worry over the action taken against them by KASUPDA.
“I am confused about the whole issue because most of us that sell here don’t have anything doing aside this petty trading and now they have asked us to vacate the road where we display our wares. The goods I sell are not that much for me to be able to afford renting a shop and I have wife and four children who I cater for,” he lamented
He appealed to government to let justice prevail on this issue considering that they are not well to do. “Majority of us selling on this road are youths and we have instead of engaging in violence and thuggery decided to engage in productive activities to help ourselves and our families; now I don’t know where government want us to go from here because not all of us can afford to rent shops,” he said.
However, when contacted, the General Manager of KASUPDA, Saratu Musa Haruna told our correspondent that the essence of the exercise was to get rid of street hawkers as well as to sanitize residents of the state on the need to maintain clean environment.
