Governor Uba Sani has distributed 400 trucks of free fertiliser to 100,000 smallholder farmers.
He also launched a crop insurance scheme to protect farmers from losses due to pests, diseases and climate-related events.
At the flag-off event held at Murtala Square on Saturday, the governor said each farmer would receive two bags of fertiliser free of charge.
“Kaduna State remains the only state where smallholder farmers consistently receive fertiliser and critical inputs at no cost,” he said.
Governor Sani recalled last year’s milestone fertiliser distribution of over 500 trucks and initiatives, including dry season farming support, ginger recovery programs, and the deployment of 200 tractors for mechanised farming.
He also announced a subsidised fertiliser programme for commercial farmers, offering 10 bags per farmer at N30,000 per bag-a 40 per cent subsidy aimed at reducing production costs and stabilising commodity prices.
The governor said improved security has opened up previously inaccessible farmland, boosting agricultural activity.
He noted that agriculture’s budgetary allocation rose from N1.48bn in 2023 to N74.02bn in 2025-a 4,871 per cent increase, raising the sector’s share from 0.4 to 10 per cent of the state budget.
He urged farmers to use the inputs responsibly and commended stakeholders for ensuring transparency.
