The Kaduna State Government would employ over 7,000 teachers to address the issue of high level of workload with secondary school teachers.

The Commissioner of Education, Science and Technology, Ja’afaru Ibrahim Sani, made the disclosure at an evidence-based workshop on the second phase of Educating Nigerian Girls in New Enterprise (ENGINE II) programme organised by Mercy Corps and Kindling Hope Across Nations (KHAN) in Kaduna.

He said the move would guarantee good student-teacher ratios, reduce workload especially in complex subjects and increase the amount of individual attention each student is likely to receive.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Kande Nana Bage, at the event tagged ‘Removing Barriers to Girls’ Education,’ the commissioner noted that the state government was making efforts to ensure that students received quality education.

He further highlighted that the government, in its bid to provide quality education for students, especially girls, has granted 12 years free education for girls, adding that Kaduna was beginning to see the result of free education through increase in enrollment.

“Information reaching the ministry is that, private schools are closing down because parents are withdrawing their children to public schools. Our primary school teachers are being trained on teaching mythology and our head teachers are being trained on leadership and this will be extended to our secondary schools,” he said.

The Executive Director of KHAN Initiative, Mr. Kizito Andah, said the initiative was basically to empower no fewer than 4,750 marginalised in-school and out-of-school girls.
