This was disclosed recently by the zonal director, FRCN Kaduna, Abba Zayyan, during an orientation programme organised by the Whiz It Out Media Links in ABU, Zaria, with the theme: “Appraising the Fortunes of Nigeria.”
Zayyan said Nigeria’s image was not promoted by the local media, and urged them to emulate the media of developed countries which promote the image of their countries.
“We should celebrate our accomplishments rather than reporting only negative stories about Nigeria,” he said.
He also advised Mass Communication students to uphold the professional ethics of journalism when they start practising.
Meanwhile, the Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir el-Rufai, urged the students to imbibe good leadership qualities as prospective leaders of the country.
The governor, who was represented by an official from the state’s Ministry of Education, Malam Umar, enjoined them to be obedient, punctual, patient and humble, noting that these are important virtues of good leadership.
“As prospective leaders, do not take anything from the treasury except what you deserve. This is because you will account for whatever you say or do on the day of judgement,” the governor advised.
President of the Whiz It Out Media Links, Emmanuel Abu, said the programme was organised to fight mental laziness of students by nurturing creativity and potentials through enlightenment and entertainment.
