Kaduna State Government has taken over 10 buildings on Rimi College premises as owners of the affected buildings have been compensated.
The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Dr Shehu Adamu disclosed this shortly after inspecting the buildings together with the Director General, Kaduna State Geographical Information Services, Alhaji Ibrahim Hussaini.
He explained that the ministry got the order to take over the houses because they were built on the college premises.
It would be recalled that Governor Nasir El-Rufai had at the inception of his administration promised to reclaim all public lands including lands belonging to schools, hospitals and other government agencies.
“Government has began the reclamation exercise and compensation has been paid to owners of the 10 houses built on Rimi College land. The state government is not witch-hunting anyone, it is simply reclaiming what belongs to people of the state,“ he said.
Our reporter gathered that Kaduna State Urban Planning and Development Agency (KASUPDA) had pasted a 21-day demolition notice on houses of residents in Gbagyi villa, a settlement behind Kaduna Polytechnic (Bye-Pass) campus.
