Kaduna health college admits 135 students

Al-Ameen College of Health Science  and Technology, Kaduna has matriculated 135 students into the 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 combined session.

The students were admitted into dental, environmental and health information management department of the institution.

Deputy Provost of the School, Mrs. Rosemary Attiogbey made the remarks during the matriculation ceremony in Kaduna.

She said the college was established to compliment government’s efforts in addressing challenges of manpower shortage in the health sector.

The guest speaker, who is the Rector of Jigawa State Polytechnic, Dutse, Professor Garba Uba Goje, spoke on the complimentary role of private health training institutions in national development.

 He said government has the authority to bring both the public and private institutions together to establish productive partnerships.

Professor Goje was represented by the Director of Academic Planning from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Dr. Mohammed Jamil  Ibrahim.

“Research conducted by the World Health Organization (WHO) shows that in Nigeria, the mortality rate of children under age five was estimated at 201 per 1,000 live births, maternal mortality was about 800 per 100,000 live births, total fertility was 5.7 children per woman, modern contraceptive methods have eight percent prevalence rate, adult HIV prevalence was estimated at five per cent and immunization rates low with only 13 per cent of one year old receiving all their recommended vaccinations. The outcome of the research suggests that the health sector is struggling, hence the need for the private sectors to compliment government efforts.”
