Leading polo clubs in northern Nigeria: the Kaduna Polo Club, Kano Polo club, Guards Brigade Polo Club Abuja, Fifth Chukker, and a host of others are planning to stage mega Sallah polo tournaments to celebrate this year’s Ramadan holiday in style.
Apart from celebrating Sallah, the festive tourneys that are traditionally open to playing members of the respective clubs usually present a timely opportunity for the clubs to prepare their players ahead of the commencement of the polo season that went on recess in March before the Ramadan Fasting period sets in.
The captain of Kaduna Polo Club, Bello Buba, said that the Sallah holiday in Kaduna this year would be special and memorable as the management of the club is planning to host a special tournament during the holidays.
“Yes, we are hoping to organise a special Sallah mini tournament this year for all the good reasons.
“Kaduna Polo Club has a tradition of hosting Eid tournaments and the committee is pulling all stops to host another exciting and memorable event this May,”said Bello.
He also hinted that there are strong indications that other clubs like Guards Polo Club in Abuja, Kano Polo Club, Katsina Polo Club, Minna Polo Club, and a number of private polo clubs are planning similar tournaments as part of events lined up for Sallah festivities this year.
