Kaduna launches agric strategy to enhance nutrition

In response to the increasing rate of malnutrition, the Kaduna State Government has launched an agricultural sector strategy aimed at achieving a food system that enhances nutrition.

Kaduna State Deputy Governor, Dr Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, inaugurated the three-year programme at the weekend, emphasising the government’s commitment to revitalising the agricultural sector for maximum benefit.

She said, “The State Agricultural Sector Strategy (2024-2027) aims to encourage farmers to cultivate crops that offer nutritional benefits.”

Represented by the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Muhammed Murtala Dabo, the deputy governor praised development partners and stakeholders for their support in realising the programme.

She also disclosed that the state government had finalised arrangements to distribute fertiliser to farmers across the state to boost food production.

Mukhtar Ahmed, the Commissioner for Planning and Budget, highlighted the state government’s partnership with HarvestPlus; a global leader in biofortification.
