State lawmakers in Kaduna have told the executive to ban tricycles, known as Keke Napep, from using curtains and tinted glasses in efforts to reduce crimes associated with them.

The house of assembly also wants measures to ensure only people of proven character, attested to by the leader of the tricycles union and community leaders, are permitted to operate.

Isah Hazo, lawmaker representing Basawa constituency, moved the motion in view of allegations that some tricycle operators engage in immoral acts in their tricycles or rob and sexually assault female passengers.

"The immorality and unruly behaviors exhibited by some of the tricycle operators in some part of the state especially in Sabo Gari local government area calls for concern going by the number of reports received from the constituency, " he said while he urged relevant agencies to act urgently so as to save lives and properties of citizens of the state.

Lawmakers supporting the motion say the aim banning motorcycle operation will be defeated if the excesses of tricycle operators cannot be checked.

They opined that tricycle operators need not use tinted glass nor curtain other than the tarpaulin.

They also frowned at the use of music on highway by tricycle operators.

The speaker of the House, Aminu Abdullahi Shagali who presided over the sitting directed the Clerk of the House to communicate the Assembly’s resolution to the Executive arm for urgent action.
