Six Kaduna State students who were awarded scholarships to study medicine in Cuba are said to be doing well academically.

This was made known when Kaduna State Scholarship Board received the medical students who returned home for the holiday.

The beneficiaries, who include five females and one male, are in their second year in Cuba studying medicine under the state’s undergraduate foreign scholarship programme.

One of the students, Abubakar Aliyu, who thanked the government for the gesture, promised not to disappoint the confidence reposed on them to excel.

“We are studying very hard. My Grade Point Average (GPA) for first semester was 4.5 and I studied harder to make 5.0 in the second semester,” he said.

Another student, Rabi Sa’idu, said: “I have not seen my GPA for the second semester, but I made 4.75 in first semester. I assure you; we will make the best of this opportunity, graduate and return home to help humanity.”

The board’s Executive Director, Hajiya Jummai Dikko, said government had paid all fees and other expenses of the students for the duration of the study, amounting to N272 million.
