Kaduna offers free malaria treatment at LGAs

Kaduna State Government has said it offers free Malaria treatment across the 23 Local Government Areas of the state, as the disease is still pandemic and kills a huge number of women and children.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Amina Mohammed Boloni, who stated this while fielding questions from journalists shortly after her presentation at the Malaria Consortium Support for National Malaria Programme Phase ll (SuNMaP2) dissemination meeting, said local government areas are the frontlines in the implementation of malaria prevention programmes.

She said the environment and health departments’ staff are doing their best to reduce malaria at the local levels adding that environmental officers have been going around to ensure that bushes are not over grown and stagnated waters are taken care of.

“The health department is doing the rapid diagnostic tests for those that come with fever. As you know, treatment for malaria is free at the local government, which is where we treat and gather data as well to ensure that we analyse and see which LGA has a high number of cases and what we can do to support them,” she said.

Malaria Consortium Representative in Kaduna, Christopher Musa commended the state government for its support towards malaria elimination adding that the consortium looks at malaria commodity availability in a sustainable manner and also malaria cases management and prevention in a more efficient manner as well as create awareness to citizens and institutions.
