The Kaduna state house of assembly has passed a new law to regulate livestock industry.

Under the law, animals unfit for consumption cannot be slaughtered out put into the food chain.

Products from livestock, eggs, milk, yoghurt, including others must not be in supply either.

Kasim Iliyasawa, Chairman of the house committee and agriculture and forestry, which had being studying the bill, reiterated the need to regulate activities of livestock sector in the state so as to ensure a healthy living for the people.

“We patronize daily meat, dairy and eggs among others, so there is need to regulate the entire activity of the sector as population of the state is fast growing. We are about 10million in the state,” he said.

Unsuspecting individuals will no longer be subjected to hazards and risks of consuming carcass or unhealthy meats that could cause stomach upset and cholera among others.

“It then means that our state would be sanitized and disciplined. We will no longer tolerate smuggling of dead animals into the state’s abattoirs. We will also be able to compete with advanced countries,” he said.
