Another member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the House of Representatives, Daniel Amos from Kaduna State, has defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Amos, who represents Jema’a/Sanga Federal Constituency, announced his defection on the floor of the House on Tuesday, a move that further depletes the PDP’s strength in the Green Chamber.

With his defection, the APC’s membership in the House now stands at 244, while the PDP has dropped to 71. The Labour Party holds 21 seats; New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), 15; All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), 5; Action Democratic Party (ADP), 1; Social Democratic Party (SDP), 2; and Young Progressive Party (YPP), 1.

In a related development, Hon. Sagir Ibrahim Koki, who represents Kano Municipal Federal Constituency, has resigned from the NNPP, citing the deepening leadership crisis within the party.

In a letter dated November 11 and addressed to the chairperson of his ward in Kano Municipal, Koki said his decision was in line with his constitutional right to freedom of association.

He lamented that the internal crisis had made it “difficult, if not impossible,” to continue offering effective representation to his constituents. Koki, elected under the NNPP platform in 2023, thanked the party for the opportunity to serve and the support he received from its members.

As of press time, Koki had yet to disclose his next political move.
