The Kaduna Polytechnic Centre for Technology Development has trained 40 almajirai on vocational skills under the institute’s Out-of-School Youth skills Acquisition Programme. The children were trained on different skills including welding and fabrication, carpentry, plumbing and installations among others.

Addressing the students at the second batch graduation ceremony held in the school, the Executive Secretary of National Board for Technical Education, Professor Idris Muhammad Bugaje, said vocational skills are key to development, adding that 30 participants had previously graduated from the centre and that the number was increased to 40, following the successes recorded.

In his remarks, Acting Rector of the institution, Dr. Suleiman Umar, called for a multi -sectoral approach that involves government, private sector, Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) institutions and communities to tackle the menace of out-of-school children.

He urged philanthropic organisations and Individuals to support TVET institutions, saying the almajiri system of education needs to be reformed to incorporate vocational courses.
