Kaduna recorded 22,000 IDPs in 2022 – KADSEMA

The Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (KADSEMA) said about 22,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) were recorded in the year 2022 in the state due to banditry and other disasters.

The KADSEMA Executive Secretary, Muhammad Mu’azu Mukkadas, disclosed this at an event organised by the agency in collaboration with Christian Aid and Cooperazione Internationale (COOPI).

He said the IDPs were hosted across five LGAs of the state, noting that succour was provided to them to ameliorate their suffering by the agency.

He also said about 603 person’s died due to floods nationwide, but that only two died in Kaduna State.

He explained further that UNICEF provided support to about 5,000 households in which N35,000 was given per household to help them relocate from flood prone areas to safety areas.

In her remarks, the Commissioner for  Local Government Affairs, Umma K. Ahmed, commended KADSEMA for providing assistance to IDPs in the Birnin Gwari area of the state.
