Kaduna State government said it has revived the livestock vaccination programme in the state under which over 7million animals including cattle, goats, sheep and poultry would be vaccinated.
This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Agriculture and Forestry, Dr. Manzo Daniel, who said over 63 percent of infectious diseases that affect man are contracted from animals, hence, the need to protect them.
“Immediately we assumed office, the state government launched an anti-rabies vaccination programme because in the last 20 years, there was no such vaccination and there have been cases of rabies and other zoonotic diseases that have killed people, especially dog bite. If a dog with rabies bites someone and he does not get medical attention in good time, such person may not survive even  if he/she gets medical attention afterwards, so we are doing this to protect the populace,’’ he said. 
Commenting on the meat sector, he decried the state of abattoirs in the state, saying  the state government was planning to bring sanitation and regulation into the sector.
“We have a meat sector that is largely organic and so the regulation will bring confidence that will make people trust our sanitation standard. Nigeria can export meat and make a lot of money from it but our sanitation standard has to be accepted,’’ he said.
