The National Board for Technology Incubation (NBTI) has trained over 100 women and youths on preservation of perishable food items and fabrication of simple grinding machines and other post-harvest machines.

While 47 women from various local government areas participated in processing and preservation of perishable agricultural produce, 44 youths were trained in fabricating stainless steel grinding machines and another set of 18 youths were trained on automobile, electricity and battery charging.

The Director General of NBTI, Engineer Mohammed Jibrin, said the training was to transfer skills to youths that were interested in becoming fabricators of simple grinding machines and other post-harvest machines to become machine fabricators either as individuals or cooperative groups.

Jibrin who was represented by the Zonal Director, North West, Malam Salisu A. Romo, said the women were expected to use their skills of processing and packaging of perishable food to improve their means of living as entrepreneurs.

“With this capacity building, the production of new or value-added products will become new knowledge-driven and sustainable businesses that will become the means of living by the beneficiaries,” he added.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, Dr. Amina Bello Shamaki, reaffirmed that the present administration was passionate about providing jobs for Nigerians; noting that the programme was introduced to enable people make a living by becoming successful entrepreneurs.
