Kaduna-Zaria Expressway for completion in June — Official

Work on the Kaduna-Zaria Expressway will be completed by June 2022, the Federal Controller of Works in Kaduna State, Engineer Zira Finbarr has disclosed. 

The Federal Controller, who led a team of security agents on a courtesy visit to the Emir of Zazzau, Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli at his palace in Zaria, however, said other auxiliary works on the expressway could span up to December next year.

Finbarr, who said they were at the emir’s palace to canvass for support to avoid any skirmishes with affected communities in the cause of discharging their work, said work on the expressway has reached an appreciable level with few challenges, pledging to complete work on the main carriage in the next six months. 

“We want to have what we call ‘service links’ particularly in Zaria, which means creating a third lane where motorists can park and allow free flow of traffic on the expressway.

“There will also be some footbridges for pedestrians crossing and “Lay bys” at bus stop. While a trailer park will be provided either in Gwargawaje or any other part of Zaria to avoid gridlock on the express road,” he said. 

While responding, the Emir of Zazzau, Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamali expressed concern over what he described as “unnecessary hold ups” resulting from the construction work on the expressway saying the situation often exposes motorists to banditry. 

He recalled the recent incident where armed bandits blocked the road and kidnapped scores of people saying, “This could be avoided when unnecessary diversions are created as a result of the work for free flow of traffic’.
