The management of KAM Steel Integrated Company has reacted over the death of a worker, Yahaya Ibrahim, who died after slipping on an engine roller in the company located along the Sagamu-Ogijo expressway in Ogun State.

Daily Trust had earlier reported that the incident occurred on Saturday night after the 27-year-old victim slipped, fell on the machine and got entangled.

Insiders said the victim was crushed by the machine after a fruitless effort to save him by his colleagues.

The management, in a statement made available to our correspondent on Monday, said the victim was a staff of one of the contractors of the company, and that he was not operating the machine at the time of the incident.

It explained that the incident, which happened on Saturday at about 9pm, was promptly reported to the DPO of the area.

In a statement, the Head of Human Capital of the firm, Tunde Badejo, described the incident as purely industrial in nature involving only the victim.

The statement reads in part: “There is an ongoing thorough investigation of the incident with possible post-mortem report to situate the circumstances surrounding the incident.”

While commiserating with the family of the deceased, the company said it is “appealing to the public to please ignore any hearsay unverified report pending the outcome of the investigation and possible post-mortem report on the incident.”
