The tournament which held on August 18 was in commemoration of the visit of the First Lady of Belize, Kim Simplis Barrow, who is the founder of the popular “inspiration centre in Belize.
Belize is an English speaking Country of less than a million people, which gained her Independence from the British Colony in 1981 and is a member of the Commonwealth of Nations and enjoys physical proximity and strong family ties with the United States.
According to Chas Nwam, a member of the organizing committee, the first match played between the Chambers Polo team and the NSK Farms Polo team ended 11-9 goals in favour of NSK Polo club.
In the second match between Pinnacle Polo team and the Imani Polo team ended 6-51/2 in favour of Imani polo team.
In his welcome address at the Mini Charity Polo tournament, the President of the Nigeria-Belize Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (NBCCIA) Alhaji Suleiman Abubarkar pointed out that NBCCIA was established to promote, facilitate and strengthen bilateral relationships and business interests between Nigeria and Belize through Commerce, Industry, Agriculture and Tourism.
He said Belize is arguably the fastest growing tourism destination in Central America and the Caribbean and enjoys a stable political democracy which has engendered rapid economic growth with steady GDP growth of more than 2% annually in the past few years.
Abubakar, a passionate polo player who participated actively in the tournament therefore enjoined every well-meaning, business conscious Nigerians to take advantage of these vast business opportunities and invest in Belize.
