Kannywood differs on Sadiya Haruna’s conviction
Shortly after the news of the actress’ conviction went viral, Kannywood actress, Ummah Shehu took to her
Following the conviction of Kannywood actress and social media blogger, Sadiya Haruna, for “uploading sexual contents on her social media handles” by a Kano State Sharia court sitting in Sharada area of the state, colleagues of the convicted actress differ on the court’s verdict.
It would be recalled that, based on the First Information Report (FIR) filed against her by the Kano State Hisbah board, the Kannywood actress was alleged to have consistently posted indecent videos on her social media handles. The actress pleaded guilty to a one-count charge of obscenity and indecent act, which contradicts section 355 of Penal Code Law 2000.

After her conviction she was ordered to attend Islamiyya session for a period of six months and that her Islamiyya attendance will be monitored by the school head teacher and the Hisbah command.
Shortly after the news of the actress’ conviction went viral, Kannywood actress, Ummah Shehu took to her social media handle and made some promiscuity allegations against the Hisbah officials. The actress in a video claimed that the Hisbah officials are also guilty of several promiscuity acts. She explained that there are top ranking Hisbah officials involved in various promiscuity acts. She said Sadiya’s offence is between her and her creator and that she should be counseled and not prosecuted.
However, Umma Shehu’s accession didn’t not go down well with the board, and therefore the board summoned the actress to prove her claim that the organization is turning a blind eye on its officials while frowning at commoners. The board also claimed that if the actress fails to submit herself and clarify the gray areas, the board will sue her for slandering.
Similarly, another Kannywood actress Teema Makamashi went on air on a Kano state local radio Stations lambasting Umma Shehu for what she described as baseless accusation labelled against the Hisbah officials. Makamashi explained that Umma’s claim was her personal view and not that of the film making industry. Makamashi also advised Umma Shehu to allow the Hisbah to do their work and she should stop such baseless accusations.
However, in recent times the state Hisbah board has been facing a serious accusation from the public. The board faced accusations of selective application of its mandate with serious discrimination between the rich and the poor.
