Speaking during a stakeholders’ sensitization meeting organized by the pioneers’ forum of the industry held in Kano, Chairman of the forum, Ibrahim Mandawari said the meeting was aimed at sensitizing all stakeholders on the importance of the event.

Mandawari said the season should be seen as a time for filmmakers to thank the Almighty for making the industry what it is today despite all odds. He said it is also time for sober reflection with a view of coming up with lasting solutions to the problems of the industry as well as ways to improve it.

He said areas of concern include improvement of the quality of films through professionalism. He also touched on the need for stakeholders to address the issue of piracy and general operations of the industry.

Dr Auwalu Kawu, who spoke on the progress of the industry so far during the meeting, traced the history of the industry to the 1980s with the movie, Turmin Danya which was produced by Ibrahim Mandawari under the auspice of Tumbin Giwa Drama Club.

Other events marking the fiesta include prayers, cultural night, public lectures, gala and award night and a fundraising dinner.
