The director of the popular Hausa Series movie, Kwana Casa’in, Salisu T. Balarabe, has revealed why the leading actresses in the movie, Maryuda Yusuf, popularly known as Salma, was replaced.
Salma Bawa Maikada, acting as the daughter to the former governor of Alfawa State in the movie, has become popular for the roles she played, one of which is going against her parents’ corrupt acts and relating with Sahabi Madugu, whom they regard as their enemy.

However, to the viewers surprised, the actress was not featured in the season 6 which started showing recently on the Arewa24 station.
Speaking to BBC Hausa on Sunday, the director, who is also the head of Arewa24 Drama Unit, said the decision became necessary due to some reasons given by the actress.
He said, “In Arewa24, we have a condition that whenever we want to continue shooting any of our series, we will contact all the actors and actresses and communicate our appropriate time to them.
“But for some reasons, maybe school or other things, some members of the crew may feel it wasn’t appropriate for them, hence make their own decisions.
“The same way we did this time around, but she (Salma) said she won’t be able to make it. Even though she didn’t reveal her reason directly, but she told us it was due to some family issues and it is anonymous.”
He said it is normal with series movies to experience changes among the, adding that it happened all over the world.
He cited the example of “Game Of Throne” were over 16 actors and actresses were replaced with others.
“You see, you can’t just stop the movie because of one person. So after her reply, we sat within the team to decide the way out, which was to look for another person that will best replace her and we did so.
“This is not the first time we are doing this in Kwana Casa’in. So also in the world. There are many series movies that have gained acceptance but also have members of their crew changed.”
Challenges and success of Kwana Casa’in
According Balarabe, they have faced many challenges shortly after the movie hit the screen, especially with politicians and government officials thinking they are targeting them.
“Many politicians and the government thought we are here to blackmail them or portray what they are doing, but that was not the idea.”
“The idea is to enlighten the public on leadership and the way we can address corruption especially in education, electricity and health sectors.
“But later people understood and we are making rapid progress on that. As you can see, the movie now has transformed many people into thinking that not only government can solve our problems; but the general public also have a significant role to play in bringing positive changes in the society.”
He added that another challenges they face was the environment for shooting and they had to relocate to Jigawa which is less populated and less crowded “because in Kano people are too many and disrupt our shootings.”
