The Kano State House of Assembly has set up a seven-member committee to investigate the recent demolition of over 5,000 shops in Rano Local Government Area (LGA).

The resolution followed a motion by Ibrahim Muhammad of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), representing Rano LGA during plenary session on Monday.

He expressed deep concern over the demolition’s impact on local businessmen and the wider community, describing the situation as an issue of urgent public importance.

Muhammad called the demolition unfortunate and urged the Assembly to intervene and uncover the reasons behind the action.

He also highlighted the economic hardship faced by the affected traders, many of whom have lost their livelihoods.

In response, Speaker Ismail Falgore directed the formation of a seven-member committee to investigate the matter.

The committee, he said, will assess whether the local government council followed due process before carrying out the demolition.

The deputy speaker, Muhd Bello, will chair the committee, which is expected to submit its findings within one week.
