More than four years after establishing Shehu Ringim Boarding Primary School in Gezawa local government area, Kano state, learning activities are yet to commence in the school.
The school was established in 2014 by the adminstration of Dr Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso to boost the quality of primary school education in the state.
The motive of re-introducing the boarding primary school in the state was to provide dynamic learning atmosphere, offer ample opportunity for pupils to study, engage in extramural activities and build strong social interactions.
Kano Chronicle gathered that the establishment of each boarding primary school with capacity 140 pupils costs government the sum of N300m.
Although the first commissioned Shehu Minjibir Boarding Primary School in Minibir local government is functioning, the Shehu Ringim Boarding Primary School in Gezawa local government is rotting away eve though the structure has been fully completed.
According government’s plan two additional boarding schools would be established in Rano and Dambatta local governments respectively with a view to spread the schools across the three senatorial districts of the state.
However, a visit to the Shehu Ringim Boarding Primary School located in Dausayi village by Kano Chronicle observed that, though the structure has been completed and learning facilities provided to the school, teaching activities are yet to commence.
Sources in the community told our reporters that, initially about five teachers and a headmaster were redeployed to the school but due to the absence of pupils the teachers were asked to go to other schools.
“Five teachers and a headmaster were redeployed to this primary school and when it was apparent that they don’t have anything to do in the building, the teachers were reposted, but the headmaster reports on daily basis. There are also six security personnel who work day and night,” the source said.
Malam Usman Dausayi told our reporters that, the initiative was a welcome development had it been the school is operational.
He said, “Initially the political will on government side in the establishment of the school was not genuine. Had it been government commitment to the creation of this school was genuine, the school would have been operating by now.”
He added that, for the community to benefit from the already established school, authorities should find a way of making it operational.
Another resident of the area, Malam Shehu Hassan, told our reporters that since the intention for the creation of the school was not realistic, authorities should consider utilizing the structure in decongesting Tsamiyar Kara Girls’ Secondary School.
