In a communiqué issued at the end of its annual combined universal week of prayers, Kano CAN condemned the resort to the use of violence for the resolution of scores and disputes in any part of the country.

“We condemn the recurring riots in Plateau State which has resulted into the destruction of lives and properties of Nigerians, we call on all warring parties\ factions to sheath their swords and toe the path of peace in the country.”

“We condemn in strong terms, the   use of violence to settle disputes in any part of the country. We call on security agencies to fish out and bring to justice all those responsible for the riots in Plateau State and other parts of the country,” the group urged.

It said the state government in collaboration with relevant security agencies in the state have ensured  adequate protection of lives and properties in the state, adding that the state government, security agencies and religious bodies collaborated in forestalling a spillover from the Jos crisis into the state.

Kano CAN further charged   the state, federal government and both chambers of the national assembly, to hasten steps to resolve the controversy surrounding the issue of indigeneship and settler crisis bedevilling the country.

“We call on the federal and state governments, the legislature and the judiciary to urgently resolve the contentious issue of indigene ship/settler in every part of Nigeria. Any Nigerian who was born and brought up in any state or who has lived peacefully for over 10 years in any state other than that of his or her origin should be accorded full rights, recognition and benefits due to an indigene of that state.”

The body then called on Nigerians to pray ceaselessly for the quick recovery of President Umar Musa Yar’adua, who is said to be receiving medical attention at a medical centre in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
