Huawei Technologies Nigeria Limited has donated a building fully equipped computer laboratory to Koguna Community of Makoda local government area of Kano state to boost literacy in the community.
Speaking during the commissioning of the solar-powered laboratory situated within the Government Secondary School (GSS) Koguna, the Executive Vice Chairman, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Professor Umar Garba Danbatta, whom the laboratory was named after, congratulated the entire community and students.
He expressed optimism that the laboratory would help in advancing education and other aspects of human development.
He therefore tasked the community members to make judicious use of the facilities while praying it serves as a medium for acquiring knowledge and digital skills.

On her part, the Deputy Director, Public Relations of the firm, Ms Fafore Nihinlola Mary said the gift was the part of the firm’s Corporate Social Responsibility and the choice of the laboratory was in consideration of the contribution given by the federal government and by extension the enabling environment by the NCC.
“The vision is to let Kano state to be a model on education in Nigeria in view of the state government commitment to restructure education system in the state.
“We have seen how the present administration at all level is working on reform and establishment of digital literacy, hence, our decision to also invest,” she said.
She added that this is just a pilot gesture as the initiative is geared towards reaching out to all local government are-as in the state and the country at large.
Daily Trust reports that the laboratory encompasses of 30 units of desktop computer sets with chairs and desks, fully air conditioned with office, store and control room all powered by solar energy.
