According to the press release, the new exco would coordinate the activities of crime reporters, adding that the body would advance the cause of crime reporters in the state, Nigeria and globally.

It added that the training of crime journalists, and ensuring that safe working conditions are provided for their members and provision of facilities to effectively carry out their jobs, would form part of the agenda to be pursued by the association.

The association noted that the prevailing situation of the lack of proper training programmes for practising crime journalists would be radically addressed through its intent to initiate training packages. It also maintained that it would uphold the professional rights of its members.

“Those elected to oversee the day to day running  of the  association are , Abbas Ibrahim(Radio Kano)Chairman, Bashir Mohammed Inuwa(Freedom Radio)Vice Chairman, Abdulgafar Oladimeji(Media Trust) Secretary, Nasiru Mohammed (Triumph Newspaper)Assistant Secretary, Abdulaziz.A.Abdulaziz(Leadership Newspaper) Financial Secretary, Aisha Ahmed(News Agency of Nigeria) Treasurer, Murjanatu Saeed(AIT) Auditor.”

The organization pointed out that, the exco are elected to serve a three year single term in accordance with stipulations of its constitution and NUJ regulations, disclosing that the new executive would be sworn into office by the state chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists on a later date.
