The Kano State Government has declared Friday, 12th September 2025, corresponding to 19th Rabi’ul Awwal 1447 AH, as a public holiday to mark the Maulud celebration, which commemorates the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).

This is contained in a press statement by the Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abfullahi Waiya.

The government called on civil servants, members of the private sector, and the general public to observe the holiday peacefully and in accordance with the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Waiya further encouraged people to use the occasion to reflect on the values of unity, tolerance, and obedience to lawful authority.

In addition, the state government urged residents to take advantage of this blessed occasion to offer special prayers for peace, prosperity, and the overall progress of Kano State and Nigeria at large.

Meanwhile, the police in the State have assured of adequate security measures to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free festivity.

The state’s Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, in a statement on Thursday, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property throughout the celebration period.

“Improved security arrangements have been meticulously put in place to ensure a serene, hitch-free celebration across the State,” Bakori said in a statement issued by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.

The CP also issued a stern warning against any form of violence, including thuggery, phone snatching, armed robbery and extortion, stressing that such acts will not be tolerated under any guise.

He revealed that surveillance units and operatives have been deployed across strategic locations, with orders to arrest and prosecute troublemakers.

The statement also urged residents to use the occasion to pray for lasting peace and stability in the state and the country at large, noting that security is vital to the region’s social and economic development.

The Command also encouraged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or via police emergency contacts.

Daily Trust reports that Kano residents mark every 19th day of Rabiul Auwal, the third month in the Islamic calendar, with special processions to celebrate the birth month of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

On the day, praise singers of the prophet march in the processions to the two historic hills of Dala and Gwauron dutse, with thousands of spectators matching on the ancient city streets, watching them.
